Achievement

Trainee Matt Connolly made exemplary contributions to our IGERT project. He submitted two successful beam time proposals to Oak Ridge National Laboratory for neutron scattering experiments investigating gas adsorption on nanoporous carbon materials. He was selected for an oral plenary talk at the tri-annual international conference “11th Fundamentals of Adsorption” in May 2013 in Baltimore, MD attended by about 500 scientists. He also presented this talk as a seminar at the University of Missouri Research Reactor. Connolly was accepted to attend the Neutron Scattering Summer School hosted by the NIST Center for Neutron Research in Gaithersburg, MD. Connolly presented a talk in the Cosmic Conversations series hosted by the MU Physics and Astronomy Department. His talk was an introduction to neutron scattering for the layperson. He also gave a tour of the MU Research Reactor to area community college students and MU graduate students and faculty.
