Ecosystem-scale greenhouse gas emissions from subtropical pasturelands
Sam Chamberlain has focused primarily on understanding ecosystem-scale greenhouse gas emissions from subtropical pasturelands. He is using eddy covariance towers and monitoring subsurface gas dynamics that influence surface gas emissions. More recently he has been exploring opportunities to model methane emissions on regional and global scales, enabled through the IGERT core courses and connections to NCAR in Boulder. For instance, this spring he was able to meet with NCAR scientists in Colorado to discuss future collaborations and modeling opportunities. Between this visit and the IGERT modeling course, he was able to get exposure to a new discipline. These connections and opportunities have provided an avenue for him to take his research beyond the ecosystem-scale, and he anticipates using these collaborations to begin modeling and connect his research to global scales.
