Achievement

In the Academic Writing and Presentation course in Spring 2013, students learned how to become aware of their intended audience and their own choices of words in writing. Students gained necessary skills in writing a well-structured academic paper by using the appropriate vocabulary for the targeted audience as well as writing a coherent and concise story. Students also learned how to deliver spontaneous presentations as well as presentation skills that are essential in delivering longer presentations such as time management techniques, use of visual materials, and storytelling methods. The instructor of the writing courses, Dr. Janet Kayfetz, has won the UCSB Distinguished Teaching Award for 2012-2013. Faculty nominated by their students for this award are judged based on their excellence in teaching and their contributions to the teaching mission of the University.
