The CCWAS IGERT workshop on the Future of Water in California included participatory research to discern topics central to advancing the science of hydroclimatology and its translation into action. These took two forms: a survey of workshop participants, and a word cloud. The word cloud provides visual representation of major workshop themes, with word size proportional to frequency of use created from workshop notes and attendee feedback. "Management," "models", "uncertainty," "human behavior," and 'integration" all emerged as primary themes. The majority of workshop attendees felt that ideas from the workshop relevant to their work were heard (91%), were understood (91%), will be discussed with colleagues (82%), and will be used in their work (62%). However, only 27% felt that workshop ideas will influence decisions in their organization.
