Generating electricity from waste
IGERT Trainee Karen Kronoveter and Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering Jason Ren have been conducting research on the potential of microbial fuel cells and anaerobic digesters to generate electricity from waste. Their studies have focused on evaluating direct conversion of a variety of urban bioresources to electricity using these innovative technologies. Results from this work have demonstrated for the first time that electricity production from cellulose and source-separated food waste is possible.
