Environmental risk assessment of GMOs
Publication of Environmental Risk Assessment of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Two IGERT PIs (Andow & Kapuscinski) and one IGERT faculty member (Nelson) are authors and IGERT Trainee Adam Zeilinger served as a reviewer. Three external-international partners contributed: Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology and The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia. There is a need for improved transfer of approaches to assessment of biotechnology, such as GMOs, to developing countries. This book makes an important contribution to the transfer of knowledge between nations and stakeholders by using Bt cotton as a case example to outline how Vietnam can conduct ecological risk assessments for GMOs. It provides tools for governments, scientists and civil society in Vietnam and the region to better understand the risks to biodiversity or natural ecosystems that accompany the use of GMOs as crops.
