Discovering Tele-connected Flow-Anomalies
Discovering Tele-connected Flow-Anomalies for understanding nature’s self-cleaning abilities:
A tele-connection represents a strong interaction between distant events, e.g. . Tele-connected flow anomalies represent distant pairs of contamination and cleansing events in a stream networks. These are important for possible insights into nature’s self-cleansing abilities. This problem is computationally hard due to the large data volume. Our interdisciplinary team with Computer and Environmental Scientists developed a novel computational method using ideas of spatiotemporal neighborhoods and pruning strategies. Mathematical and experimental evaluations showed that proposed methods reduced computational costs significantly. Results were accepted for publication in the Intl. Symp. on Spatial and Temporal Databases, 2009.
