Fundamentals of Cellular Engineering course
Fundamentals of Cellular Engineering course: This new gateway survey course provides an overview of cellular engineering research areas, with valuable perspective about the different problem-solving strategies employed by engineers and life scientists. Co-instruction by 15 faculty members representing more than 10 programs across campus supports the interdisciplinary theme, reinforces the value of being able to communicate across disciplines, and provides research networking opportunities. Representative course achievements (as noted by students) centralize around: (1) "interacting with individuals I may not normally have worked with who I can now use as a resource," (2) "being able to learn from students and professors in other disciplines who approach a problem differently," and (3) "improving the way you consider your own research." In this first offering, the class size had to be expanded to allow 20 students to participate.
