Collaborative effort on microfluidic device
The Rutgers IGERT on Integrated Science Engineering of Stem Cells has fostered collaborative efforts between trainees from widely different research backgrounds. Mohamed Sadik from Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Cara Nasello from Genetics, have begun a collaboration on the miniaturization of the electroporation system in a microfluidic device. Utilizing a multi-channel device, their aim is to deliver different cues to different electroporated stem cells, and subsequently separate them upon delivery. If this is successful, they will be able to achieve high-through-put delivery as well as the capability to study several populations of cells in a highly efficient way and with high cell visibility. This IGERT cross-project collaboration is unprecedented in terms of the range of breadth of disciplinary expertise it encompasses.
