Interdisciplinary Capacity-Building. IGERT has worked closely with the University of Alaska’s NSF EPSCOR program on northern vulnerability and resilience--a theme that meshes closely with that of our IGERT. The development of our IGERT over the past several years laid the groundwork for the collaborations and conceptual framework that made the current EPSCOR program possible. This is based on a broad range of individual and group research projects, including prominently those of IGERT trainees and faculty. This research involves ecologists, permafrost scientists, anthropologists, economists, and and political scientists, including the hire of several new faculty in the social sciences specifically to foster interdisciplinary research.
