New course on Ethics and Professional Skills
As a result of the IGERT grant, we implemented a new course on Ethics and Professional Skills that not only trained IGERT students, but students in other graduate programs (e.g., Anthropology MA program) as well. The new course includes, among other topics, discussions about how to prepare and conduct research presentations in oral and poster formats, human and animal rights and safety issues (including IACUC, NAGPRA, CITES, and IRB procedures), ethical considerations when reviewing manuscripts or grant proposals, how to prepare a CV, a grant proposal, and a manuscript for publication, and how to best position oneself for eventual success in obtaining a position following the awarding of the degree.
