Achievement

The Engineering 285B course on Technology Management had a notable impact on the IGERT Fellows during the reporting period. The course was very useful for Fellows to learn how discoveries in the lab can be converted into marketable products or a startup company. Fellows learned how to identify potential applications for emerging technologies and practiced developing a viable product from a new technology. In addition, Fellows learned how to build a business venture around such a technology and how to present the technology to a venture capital firm or other potential funding source. The course emphasized the importance of developing social networks in order to succeed in business and other endeavors which complimented the multidisciplinary nature of the IGERT program.
