Conducting polymers and organic semiconductors
IGERT Fellow, Ryan Davis, reports: The classroom training which I have participated in has consisted of studying conducting polymers and organic semiconductors. Having a background in inorganic chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis, this experience has allowed an exposure to a field in which I have had only passing knowledge. I now have the capacity to not only understand the concepts behind many of the emerging technologies based on these materials, such as OLEDs and organic photovoltaic cells, but can constructively participate in the dialogue about the diffusion of this technology and the subsequent benefits. The final aspect of my recent classroom training is the familiarization with the methods used in the fabrication of organic solar cells and other devices, especially ink-jet printing of organic displays and solar cells.
