Newly found flexibility in how people learn
IGERT trainees have worked in the lab of Dr. Kurt Thoroughman to determine precise trial-by-trial motor adaptations of human subjects experiencing novel feedback as they move. These movements feature visual or haptic (force feedback) environments that are unlike real life, but allow students to perform a reverse engineering of the human brain as people move. The core of this work explores newly found flexibility in not just what people learn, but how people learn. This flexibility calls into question bedrock principles of neural processing.
