"Twirling" of actin filament
Trainee John Beausang, advisors Yale Goldman and Phil Nelson, used polarized total internal reflection fluoresence (polTIRF) to observe the twirling of an actin filament along its axis, as it is translocated by myosin. This work is reported in Biophysical Journal, Volume 95, Issue 12, pages 5820-5831. Beausang, Goldman and Nelson, along with several current and former IGERT senior investigators, were also mentioned in a Technology Feature in Nature Methods journal for their work. The article, Nanotechnology in biology: big collaborations for a small world appeared in the June 2008 issue (Volume 5, Issue 6, p. 569-574).
