GLOBES trainees also received specialized training about the role of science and research in how policy is made and how management decisions are made at the Policy Training Workshop held October 17 & 18, 2008. Professional trainers from the COMPASS consultant group were joined by guest experts Karen Hyun, Sea Grant fellow; Dave Ullrich, executive director of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative;and Doug Keller, biologist with the Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife; and Hodge Patel, district director for Congressman Joe Donnelly; for two days of lectures, role playing, group activities, and panel discussion of how to communicate science in a policy context.
