IGERT a model for interdisciplinary graduate programs
The new core classes specifically designed for the EIGER Program have been crosslisted as Virginia Tech Graduate School courses (designation of GRAD), which allows more students across the university to access the courses. More importantly, our Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering (The IDR Course) has become a model for other interdisciplinary programs on campus. Now any program or interdisciplinary group of faculty can teach their own field-specific version of GRAD 5134, and this course originally established by EIGER is a part of nearly every IGERT proposal coming out of our institution.
