New rubric for assessing dissertations and papers

Professor Mary Durfee and a group of IGERT trainees Chris Polonowski, Melanie Kueber and Margot Hutchins have established a rubric for assessing the sustainable attributes of dissertations and journal papers. The goal was to develop a method to assess the impact the IGERT program has had on the inclusion of sustainability concepts within the trainee’s research activities over the lifetime of the program. The rubric has proved useful in identifying the social and engineering specific sustainable traits present in many of the IGERT related publications and has helped to understand the differing/similar sustainable viewpoints of social scientists and engineers.
