Trainee begins work at NASA/MSFC
Statement from Enrique Jackson. During this past year, I had the opportunity to begin working at NASA/MSFC in Huntsville, AL with Dr. Curtis Banks (NASA). This is a new collaboration with Dr. Mahadevan (Department of Civil Engineering) as my co-advisor at Vanderbilt that will investigate structural health monitoring (SHM) on composite structures using Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) sensors. The project includes fabrication and testing of composite structures with FBG sensors, combined with finite element modeling to validate the optimum placing of the FBG sensors in the composite structures. This technology will have great importance for monitoring the health of many important applications from rockets to bridges.
