IGERT Fellow Wins Multiple Materials Research Society Awards
November 29 – Kristy Jost, a Drexel doctoral student in materials science and engineering, won multiple awards at the 2012 Fall Meeting of the Materials Research Society for work performed as an NSF IGERT Fellow.
Jost, who was named a 2011-2012 Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) Fellow for her research in nanoscale materials science, won the inaugural Arthur Nowick Graduate Student Award from MRS. The award honors the late Dr. Nowick, a materials scientist who made pioneering contributions to the field during a research career at IBM and teaching career at Columbia University, for his commitment to teaching and mentoring students in materials science.
Jost, whose research focuses on developing “smart” and electronic textiles using advanced materials and nanotechnology, won the award for showing particular promise as a future teacher and mentor. She received $500 and a presentation plaque.
Separately, Jost also won a silver Graduate Student Award for her work on textile energy storage titled,“All-textile EDLCs for Applications in Wearable Electronics,” co-authored with Daniel Stenger, John K. McDonough, Carlos R. Perez, Genevieve Dion, and Yury Gogotsi. For winning the silver GSA, Jost received a certificate and $200.
