IGERT Story
Get Creative at Your Desk With a Little Playtime
Description
IGERT trainee Mike Karlesky and IGERT advisor Prof. Katherine Isbister from NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering study how interacting with gadgets can help workers ease anxiety and help workers focus on the job. The research into embodied cognition looks at how physical movement and the environment may shape cognitive functioning. The NYU research team uses social media and other methods to invite people to post photos and of gadgets they use to release stress while sitting at their desk. Recently, the Wall Street Journal has also invited people to share videos of toys readers use at work, with descriptions of their benefits.
A preliminary introduction of the work has been presented by the NYU research team at SigChi 2013.
