Advanced Nutrient Removal from Swine Waste
Description
Advanced aerobic thermophilic treatment was used to treat swine waste from a finishing barn. It was treated at the lab, pilot (1000 gal) and a full-scale design was developed. Treated waste had up to 90% reduction in odor and significant reduction in phosphorus. It was field tested against non-treated swine waste, commercial fertilizer and an untreated control and demonstrated statistically significant nutrient reductions over the three growing seasons of corn. It is patented for having a high level of heat production as hot water compared with other treatment technology.
