Dartmouth IGERT Field Studies in Greenland
The edge of the Greenland Ice Sheet
Description
On July 19, 2010, the trainees and faculty of the Dartmouth IGERT in Polar Environmental Change flew from the Air National Guard base in Scotia, New York, to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, for a month-long field study that includes Summit Station on the Greenland Ice Sheet and the capital Nuuk. Seven trainees and five faculty in ecology, earth sciences, engineering, and linguistics are taking part in a challenging program that engages scientists, policy makers, and government and community representatives on topics related to environmental change and its impact on Greenland and its people.
The Dartmouth IGERT in Polar Environmental Change is an interdisciplinary PhD program in polar sciences. Students complete a core curriculum that integrates the requirements of earth sciences, engineering sciences, or biological sciences into an interdisciplinary framework for studying polar changes.
