Neuromechanics Symposium in Chicago

Supported by the Center for Integrative Neuroscience and Neuroengineering Research and the Moto-IGERT Program, the first annual Symposium on Neuromechanics Research took place at the University of Chicago on May 17 and 18, 2010. Neuromechanics combines the traditionally independent fields of biomechanics and neuroscience in order to better understand how the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, and physical environment interact. This symposium brought together local, national, and international researchers to discuss recent developments and the future directions of this growing and interdisciplinary field. Invited speakers presented 30-minute lectures and several local researchers led poster presentations about their recent work that captured the true interdisciplinary and integrative nature of neuromechanics. Dr. Michael Graziano of Princeton University, who discussed his work on functional imaging of the human motor cortex and computational modeling of the motor cortex, presented the keynote talk. Thanks to all presenters, coordinators, and participants who made this first annual meeting a success and a wonderful springboard for ongoing communication and collaboration amongst the members of the neuromechanics research community.
