PV ENGINEER
Position Summary: The PV Engineer is responsible for improving solar cell efficiencies and enhancing yield and reliability through process development and optimization. The position requires a working knowledge of photovoltaic device design, processing and characterization. This position requires the individual to be able to perform in a highly collaborative team environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to create and document development plans are essential. This engineering position will be a PV advisor and team member to the existing process engineering team for addressing the specific issues of solar cell physics associated with high-efficiency cells.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Process development on leading edge and next-generation high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cell technologies using proprietary process, device, and tool technologies. Development of industry leading edge high-efficiency new cell design, yield, reliability, metrology, and optimization of process steps with a view to minimization of manufacturing cost per watt. This requires deep understanding of the full sequence of production steps and the related process flow and equipment technologies.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Expert in PV metrology tools and analytical techniques.
  • Strong background in evaluating and qualifying leading edge crystalline silicon solar cell process technology and factory experience with hands-on knowledge is required.
  • Proficiency in solar cell device physics and optical properties of materials is also required.
  • Practical knowledge of various equipment platforms and tool design tradeoff considerations is a big plus.
  • Ability to interface and collaborate with external vendors and suppliers of solar manufacturing equipment is desired.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of solar cell device simulation packages such as PC1D or Sentaurus.

Qualifications:


  • Ph.D. preferred, MS in Engineering/Physics/Material Science required
  • Solar industry experience required – 5 to 10 years minimum
  • Desire to stay on the leading edge of the renewable energy industry
  • Strong work ethic, self motivated, organization and a can-do attitude
  • Team player who listens, and actively communicates
  • Critical thinker good at problem solving and implementing ideas

Training Requirements:

VICE PRESIDENT, Technology Development
Position Summary: This person is expected to build and lead the development team which will take the prototype technologies developed by SpectraWatt’s research team in OR to factory-readiness. He/she will work closely with the research team to evaluate technology pathways for manufacturability, and translate new technologies into a pilot scale technology focusing on both process and equipment development. He/she will also be responsible for investigating ongoing technology improvements for existing cell production lines in NY.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Evaluate manufacturing tool and processing options for NOC technology.
  • Provide a feedback loop to Research for Design for Manufacturing /Design for Cost & Quality.
  • Responsible for post-prototype pilot and scale manufacturing development.
  • Lead new silicon process and tool assessment of Si cell line optimization / improvement alternatives.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Experienced leader and manager.
  • Prior experience scaling small scale prototypes to product sizes and volumes.
  • Prior development experience with thin film devices (preferable solar).
  • Expert at processing and deposition techniques associated with typical thin films (hands-on familiarity with a wide variety of techniques, demonstrated out of box thinker).
  • Nice to have: prior experience with silicon processing/manufacturing/development.

Qualifications:


  • PhD Engineering/Physics/Material Science or similar required
  • Solar industry experience required – 5 years minimum

QUALITY MANAGER/ ENGINEER

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop and establishes corporate quality program where none exists. Establish quality requirements standards and processes for manufacturing products.

  • Establish all quality programs and standards. Develop corporate quality manual, must be skilled in inspection criteria. Ensure compliance with customer acceptance criteria.

  • Must be able to establish strong relationships with client quality engineer.

  • Serve as the primary Quality Assurance resource to department supervisor(s) for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement.

  • Support concurrent engineering efforts by participating in design development projects representing Quality Assurance and the customer.

  • Design and implement methods for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection.

  • Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, test methodology, quality plans, documents and reports.

  • Assist in process certification.

  • Review customers purchase orders, contracts and change requests and ensure that the necessary criteria and provisions are included in quality and process plans.

  • Develop, execute and analyze quality-reporting measures.

  • Report to management on quality issues, trends and losses.

  • Review suppliers purchase orders and establish supplier quality requirements.

  • Participate in internal and external quality audits.

  • Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality assurance and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.

  • Serve as the Quality Assurance representative to the Materials Review Board (MRB).

  • May compile, write and deliver training material on quality standards and activities.

Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or statistics (MS preferred)
  • Minimum 5 – 10 years experience.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Broad knowledge of theory and principles of statistics and statistical process control.
  • Diverse knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques and documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong computer skills including QA applications, word processing, spreadsheets and databases. A working knowledge of JMP statistical discovery software is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
