Research Achievements
Promoting mentoring relationships
Desired Goal: To promote mentoring relationships between IGERT Trainees and Haskell Indian Nations University undergraduates. In 2009, the first year of the Haskell Summer Internship program, five IGERT Trainees and ten Haskell undergraduates participated. We asked each trainee to partner with Haskell undergrads with research interests similar to their own. Trainees gave presentations about graduate study and research in their discipline and assisted Haskell undergrads to develop research projects focusing on climate change and indigenous communities. The program lasted through July, but the relationships have continued well beyond. Haskell undergrads have presented research posters from this collaboration in several professional meetings.
