Haskell Indian Nations Univ. Summer Internship program
Desired Goal: To promote collaboration between IGERT Trainees and Haskell Indian Nations University undergraduates to broaden participation in STEM disciplines.
During summers 2009 and 2010 a total of 12 IGERT Trainees and Associates and 24 Haskell undergraduates Interns participated in the Haskell Indian Nations University Summer Internship program, Climate Change in Indigenous Communities. Each trainee partnered with Haskell undergrads on Interns' research projects. The summer program continues throughout the academic year. Haskell undergrads have presented research posters in several professional meetings across the country, and Trainees and Interns collaborated to develop sessions on traditional ecological knowledge for the March 2011 inter-IGERT workshop in Juneau, Alaska.
