New protocol published and presented
Geosciences student Andrea Harrington published a paper that describes a new protocol for determining the upregulation of reactive oxygen species in lung cells after exposure to mineral dust. The development of this protocol was a close collaboration between the Tsirka (Pharmacology) and Schoonen (Geosciences) lab. Applications of the protocol have been presented as invited talks by Andrea Harrington at the Geological Society Meeting in 2011 at a special symposium on the emerging field of medical geology. Harrington was one of the few student speakers in the session and established scientists sought her out after the presentation to learn more.
