Protocols bridge environmental and biomedical sciences
IGERT project has led to several new protocols to quantify the interaction of earth materials with lung cells and tissue. These protocols bridge environmental sciences and biomedical sciences. As a result of our new capabilities, researchers have sought out our group to conduct measurements on mineral dust from various locations where dust is suspected to contribute to (public) health problems. Most notable is our involvement in determining the contribution of mineral dust in the development of lung ailments among armed services stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
