Impact of climate change on water resources in Hawaii
Trainee Kaipo Perez has worked with The Kohala Center as well as other public, private, and non-governmental organization to assess the impact of climate change on water resources of the watershed Kahalu'u, Island of Hawaii. Perez’s research works to marry the Hawaiian culture with science by incorporating the traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) of the elders or kupuna of Kahalu'u into science. This work is using western science as well as cultural knowledge to promote sound management decisions in terms of the coral reef resource found at Kahalu'u bay.
