New courses developed for IGERT students
New courses developed for IGERT students include the Computational Materials Science and Engineering course taught for the second time by IGERT coPI Cagin. Other core courses offered include Math 604 for IGERT students (IGERT coPI Walton). The core IGERT materials fundamentals course, MSEN 601, was taught by IGERT advisor Zhang, and its growing popularity led again to the opening of summer sections of the course. Other IGERT elective courses were offered for several IGERT students: Mechanical Behavior of Materials (IGERT advisor Karaman, taught for the second time), Special Topics in Mesoscopic and Nanaoscale Physics (IGERT advisor Sinova, new course), and Finite element methods in scientific computing (IGERT advisor Bangerth, new course). Also this year Zhang developed a new course, Mechanical and Physical Properties of Thin Films and Coatings, aimed at IGERT and interdisciplinary materials students, to be offered in fall 09.
