Education Achievements
Highly interactive course in Thailand
We have developed a highly interactive course in Thailand that directly involves both IGERT fellows and trainees. The curriculum frames the issue of human health and the environment by focusing on biodiversity loss, biological invasion and emerging infectious diseases using dengue fever as a model. This is important as emerging vector borne viral disease are a very real and near threat in Southeast Asia. The course work (Interdisciplinary Studies; IS 650-2) in our own program as also evolved into a curriculum that addresses the training needs of the fellows but also shows them how to approach their research with a transdisciplinarian eye in order to ask better questions of themselves and their work. IGERT fellows through discussion and questionnaires spearheaded the changes in the curriculum.
