Science policy and disciplinary research
Relevance of Science Policy to Disciplinary Research: Trainees from biological, geological, and soil sciences wrote research papers that incorporated science policy into their disciplinary research projects. The biological science trainee studying the impact of climate change on forest growth, examined the role of the US Forest Service in observed patterns of forest growth; the geological science trainee studying the bleaching of coral reefs, examined the implications of tourism and development policy on future reef health; the soil science trainee studying the feasibility of home gardens in land previously used for non-agricultural purposes, examined the history of politics and gardens, e.g., World War I Liberty Gardens and World War II Victory Gardens.
